O príncipe Phillip, marido da Rainha Elizabeth II, morreu aos 99 anos na manhã desta sexta-feira (09). O Palácio de Buckingham não informou a causa da morte. Clubes da Inglaterra como Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal e Tottenham lamentaram em seu perfis oficiais, com mensagem de apoio para a Rainha e toda a família Real. O Palácio de Buckingham a comunicou a morte de príncipe Phillip, ou Duque de Edimburgo, aos 99 anos na manhã desta sexta-feira (09). A causa da morte, no entanto, não foi revelada. Em fevereiro, o príncipe passou por uma cirurgia no coração, mas recebeu alta um mês depois.

“É com profunda tristeza que Sua Majestade a Rainha anunciou a morte de seu amado marido, Sua Alteza Real, o Príncipe Philip, Duque de Edimburgo. Sua Alteza Real faleceu pacificamente esta manhã no Castelo de Windsor”.

Casado com Elizabeth desde 1947, tem quatro filhos, sendo o príncipe Charles, princesa Anne, e Andrew e Edward.

Com a morte de príncipe Phillip, clubes da Inglaterra postaram nas redes sociais suas últimas homenagens ao marido da Rainha Elizabeth II. Além disso, o Duque era muito conhecido por apoiar esportes, principalmente o futebol, assistindo Pelé duas vezes ao vivo quando veio ao Brasil.

O Chelsea, time de Londres, postou em seu Twitter uma mensagem lamentando a morte de Phillip, além de mostrar todo o seu apoio para a Rainha e toda a família Real.

O Arsenal, em seu site oficial, postou uma homenagem, mostrando a longa associação de Phillip com o clube londrino, recheado de fotos do Duque em visitas ao Estádio na presença de jogadores. Segundo o comunicado, Phillip visitou pela primeira vez ao estádio do Arsenal aconteceu em 1952, oito meses depois que a Rainha Elizabeth II chegou ao trono, em evento de caridade.
